Here I have deposited two sets of Archives, regarding Soviet Jewry and Israel, during my time as a member of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington (1970-86), and as Chairman of the Soviet Jewry and Israel and Middle East Committees.

During this time two incidents should be noted: 1. I was helping local pro-Israel student groups when President Pompidou of France visited the White House (Feb 22, 1970). I helped organize a procession of cars to the White House to protest the fact that he had reneged on his commitment to provide fighter jets to Israel that had already been paid for.  As a result the procession was stopped by the police, and we were all arrested and spent the afternoon in jail. 2.  When President Brezhnev visited Washington (June 18, 1973), I helped organize the massive demonstration against the treatment of Soviet Jewry.  I also managed to prevent the JDL from taking over the march to the White House.
